How does the booking system work?
The concept is relatively straight forward. Driving schools typically consist of one or more vehicles for providing lessons and driving instructors who provide one or more driving lesson types during specific work periods in a specific area. The driving lesson booker system allows driving school enter these details into a system which can match the services they provide with customers who are looking for these services in their particular area.

How much does it cost to get setup on and use this booking system?
There are no setup or ongoing costs for using this system. Diving schools are only charged on booking they receive. When a customer makes a booking they are changed a booking deposit. This fee is retained by us as a technology fee. Click here to view current technology fee rates. The customer at time of lesson pays the balance of the booking to the driving school. Driving schools can also use the system to create new bookings and modify or cancel bookings either they or their customers have made. For each of these actions there is a cost of €0.10. An invoice will be generates either once per month or when a minimum amount of €5.00 has been accumulated. This invoice will be sent to the driving school as an email containing a link which will allow the driving school pay the can be paid online. There are no ‘cosy’ arrangement and all driving schools are charged the same regardless of size.

How does the system select the instructor for a lesson?
After the customer has selected a date for their lesson and proceeds to make the payment process the system calculated the number of hours each suitable instructor has available for that particular day as a percentage of the number of hours they are working that day. The lesson is then allocated to the instructor with the most hours available on the day. In this way the system will evenly allocate lesson among instructors even were the length of their working day may vary.

What determined the order in which schools are listed in search results?
The order in which schools are listed in the search results is quite complex and has been worked out by a mathematician. Essentially though it is a function of the driving schools rating average and number of ratings they have received. As an example a driving school who have been on the site for some time and has perhaps 50 rating and an average satisfaction rating of 60% would appear in the listings before a new driving school with 10 ratings and a satisfaction rating of 80%. In short, to achieve a high listing schools should strive to maximise their satisfaction rating.

I have my own website, can visitors to my website book my lessons through your booking system?
Yes, as part of the setup process you have the option to create your own ‘micro-website’. Essentially this consists of a single page with information on your driving school, a photo for your driving school, reviews posted about your driving school by previous customers and a search box to allow users search for the type of lesson you provide and. The Uri for this micro-website is of the form http://www.dLb.ie/YourDrivingSchool/ where ‘YourDrivingSchool’ is one of your choosing. Please not that the driving lessons displayed when a users are restricted exclusively to your driving school. By placing a link to this micro-website from your own website, probably in the form of a ‘Book Now’ button which links to your micro-website, visitors to your website can search for and book the lessons you provide.

How does the system handle lesson bundles?
Once a driving school has entered details for a single lesson offering type they provide they can create a bundle offering for this lesson type. In turn when a customer searches for lesson they are initially presented with only single lesson offering types. When they select the single lesson offering type they require they are then presented with bundle offering for this lesson along with details of the savings to be made for purchasing their lesson as part of a bundle. The customer need only select the date and time of their first lesson at the time of booking. The confirmation email sent to the customer after they complete payment will contain instruction on how they can login to the site to book their remaining lessons. The customer must book and complete all the driving lesson in their bundle with six months of the original booking date.

Can a customer reschedule or cancel their booking?
Yes. In the confirmation email sent to the customer after they have completed their booking are details of how they can login to the driving lesson booker website and either reschedule or cancel their booking. The customer can either cancel or reschedule their booking up to 24 hours before the time of the lesson. A technology fee of €2.00 is charged to the customer for this service. Obviously the customer can only reschedule for time slot where the school is available. In addition the driving school can specify the minimum number of days (1 – 14) between a customer’s search date and the booking date.

How do driving schools manage the hours their instructors work each week?
The driving lesson booker system work on the premise that instructors work more weeks that they take off. As such it is only required to specify the days/times they are off. This greatly reduced the maintenance requirement for the driving schools. When creating a new instructor on the system the driving school can specify the instructors standard working week by selecting their work hours on the work week grid. These hours will be then be applied automatically for the instructor for the following eight weeks around midnight every Sunday night. Driving schools can also create work week templates which they can apply to any instructor either individually or as a bulk operation for all instructors. In addition the individual hours/day can be modified for an instructor where an instructor required short amounts of time off. Where one of many instructor require an entire week off, again this modification can be performed as a bulk operation. In situation where the system has automatically assigned time for an instructor, once the driving school manually modified this time the system will not auto populate it again. In auto populating the instructors time the system will exclude days which are public holidays. When blocking out an instructors availability, it’s not possible to block out times for an instructor where they are scheduled to provide a lesson.

Does the school need to manage vehicle availability as well?
The system assumes that a vehicle is available at all times unless otherwise specified. As such a driving school need only alter availability for a vehicle if for some reason it is unavailable. This feature will prevent bookings where there are not enough vehicles to available to provide the lesson. In the same way it will display availability for an instructor where the customer is providing their own vehicle. How do I modify lesson costs to cater for student who provide their own vehicle or don’t require collection? When creating a lesson offering type a driving school is required to specify separately the cost of collection and supplying a school vehicle for the lesson. When a customer is specifying their lesson requirements at search time they can select from the following (i) Vehicle plus collection required (ii) Vehicle required or (iii)No vehicle or collection required. The lesson cost displayed to the customer will reflect their lesson requirements. As such a customer who is providing their own vehicle and doesn’t require collection will be quoted a lower cost that a customer who required one of both of collection or a school vehicle.

How does the customer rating process work?
About three to five days after a customer completes a lesson they booked through our system they will receive an email asking them to provide feedback on the driving lesson experience and proving them with the Uri and login details to complete the rating. This rating can be modified by the customer for up to six months from the time of booking.

I don’t want to maintain two diary's. How do I prevent double booking?
This is a common concern, especially among smaller driving schools where the driving instructors take booking over their mobile phone while ‘on the road’ and not having access to a computer. To cater for this we have implemented several features. Firstly the terms and condition that a customer agrees to at time of booking state that the lesson they have chosen is subject to confirmation by the driving school. As such if a driving instructor on return to the office realised that there is a booking conflict they can use the management system within DLB to modify the booking. A confirmation email with the new lesson date and times can be sent to the automatically to the instructor and customer as part of this process. The driving school can also add or amend details in this email before it’s sent. If the instructor in their car has a smart phone they can login to the mobile admin panel of section of DLB at www.dLb.ie/Mobile. Within this panel they can check their availability on the day of the proposed new booking and then block out their availability for the time of the lesson. Very simple to do and should take no more than thirty seconds. The driving school can specify the minimum number of days between when a customer’s performs their and when they can book lessons at their school. The range available if from one to fourteen days. As such if a driving school were to set them ‘lead time’ to seven days they can take bookings for any available timeslot in the next seven days as nobody can book a lesson online during that period.

Why can't I delete instructors, vehicles or lessons?
If for some reason you wish to remove an instructor, vehicle or driving lesson offering type you can change their status from 'Active' to 'Inactive'. This will remove these items from future searches or being displayed as part of normal operational functions. After twelve months of being inactive the item will be deleted automatically by the system. The reason that these items cannot be deleted directly has to do with the way databases work. Without getting too technical an example might be where an instructor resigns. In this instance you would want to block the instructor from appearing in future searches but you might still need to retain their details for the purpose of reporting or lessons already booked but not yet taking. If you really want to know the exact reason for not being able to delete these items look up 'Referential integrity'.
